About the event
Create a musical from scratch and perform a staged reading on the final day. Discover the basics of songwriting, the development of character and plot through song and the structure of a libretto. Learn about the opening number, the love/hate duet, the patter song, the comic interlude, the mid-act group piece, the eleven o’clock number. For the musically experienced and the complete novice, all that’s required is a love of musical theatre.
About the teacher - Richard Free: I am an award-winning writer/composer of musicals whose shows have been performed around the world by people such as Bonnie Langford, Omar Okai, Gemma Whelan, Summer Strallen, David Durham, Jessica Martin and many others and published by Samuel French Ltd.
